After completing the first flight of stairs, the visitor embarks on a journey to discover the ancient artifacts comprising the permanent archaeological section “Pianura romana. Villa Vicus Via”, dedicated to numerous Roman-era findings, particularly from the Augustan age, unearthed in the area.

The permanent exhibition of archaeological artifacts from the northern plains of Bologna, specifically from the Roman vicus of Maccaretolo, is the result of a fruitful collaboration between the Municipality of San Pietro in Casale, the Reno Galliera Union, and the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape for the Metropolitan City of Bologna and the provinces of Modena, Reggio Emilia, and Ferrara.

The exhibition, focused on the Roman era, unfolds across three rooms, each dedicated to specific themes.

TheRoom I is particularly dedicated to the daily activities of living, on the land and in the home, thus focusing on agriculture, food and banqueting, body care and cosmetics.

The Room II deals with the topic of trade and production, with a special focus on amphorae, stamps, coins and the trade carried out in the area.

TheRoom III displays artefacts related to the religious sphere and funerary rituals that marked time in ancient rural everyday life.

The exhibition concludes with some grave goods recovered from Gothic-era tombs found in the Municipality of Bentivoglio, as well as a showcase of Renaissance-era decorated ceramics, which testify to the continuous settlement and the various historical phases that have shaped the region over centuries.
